New year firecrackersMove away the ghosts![]() In Asia, firecrackers are put together with a single wick at the end. They're commonly called 1000 blows firecrackers. Their explosions are characteristic: an acceleration of the backfire with a panning effect. Let us think!! Well… Producing, a serious trade…Buy 1000 blows wedding firecrackers at the closest chinese general store and record them seem to be a proper a solution. But we do need 2 microphones for stereophony and an appropriate and protected place to operate the recording. I do not have such place. Therefore, I have to find another trick. Buy a single firecracker, blow and record it. Then copy-paste this recording a thousand time while panning each and every one of them. For all the itchy tasks, I have a benevolent brother. I put him at work. I heard that, reaching the 301st panned copy of the sample, my brother was searching for a protected place to record traditional chinese firecrackers... Ok... Why not exploit the sounds already recorded in the track and use them to caricature the explosions? No sooner said than done, had been ravaged by avenging brother! After few weeks of rehabilitation, I plunged myself into synths : What do I have? Basses and fake cymbals, of course! Thus, I recorded an acceleration of fake cymbals blows on several Midi tracks, purified the tail of these recordings to have less of an explosion at that time and added a panning tool on the synthetic sound. I played the Midi result by a synth bass to otain a more consistent result. I filtered this new wave to keep high frequencies. The last thing to perform is to place these mixed tracks in a "open space" reverb in order to mask synths weaknesses... You then get Tre em gap ma o nghia dia's firecrackers! | |
